How BookWise introduced me to Barack Obama
| by Eric P. Martin | August 08, 2007
I dont know how many times Ive seen the cover of Barack Obamas book, The Audacity of Hope staring at me as I entered the automatic sliding glass door of my local Walgreens It certainly was enough times to convince me not to buy it there. Even before exiting with my weekly personal purchases, they tried to nudge me in a last ditch effort right at the checkout counter.
Until recently, I never had been interested in politics. In my twenties and thirties, I could have cared less about what bills were trying to be passed by politicians. I didnt believe the decisions that were made had any affect on my success in life. That is how detached I was from the real world. Maybe it was because Ive never had an interest in picking up and reading a book on politics.
Recently, I joined BookWise. An online book club founded by author Richard Paul Evans and real estate investor Paul Allen. I joined because of my love of books. In addition, BookWise offered within its membership a chance to start a home-based business for the cost of the monthly membership. When I joined, I had to choose my first book. There, staring me in the face again was The Audacity of Hope. I ordered it and within a week, I was sitting in the park, on a Saturday afternoon reading Obamas prologue.
After reading the first couple of chapters, a spark ignited in me. I found myself watching within a few weeks C-SPAN. I started cutting out any articles that dealt with Barack Obama. I signed up f or My.BarackObama.com to try and learn more as I continued my reading of his second book. Then by happenstance, I learned scouring through a left-behind newspaper at my local Starbucks, that his campaign was starting a book club around the The Audacity of Hope, www.readobama.com. I joined immediately.
I owe my new found political interest to BookWise. Ive never joined a book club before but Ive signed up with many network marketing companies over the last twenty years. I feel that both Richard Paul Evans and Paul Allen have created a unique marketing company that will introduce thousands of people to new book that will lead them to new worlds. And with a home-based business opportunity behind it, we could earn a few bucks too.
