Tips on Reducing your Stress
| by Wooded Retreat | January 12, 2008
Sometimes it feels like the world is turning so fast that you just want to get off and take a break. There are so many things that need to get done such as paying the bills, planning the menus, doing the grocery shopping, finishing those projects at work, helping the kids with their homework, maintaining your relationships, or getting that car or home repair completed. To complicate things, there are so many new gadgets and devices available to entertain and use up our time that we have even less time available to finish those critical things that need to be done.
Here are a few ideas that can help you find some relief from the rat race.
Get organized. Creating a list of the items you need to get done will not only help you remember the items that need to be done, but will also give you a sense of accomplishment as you complete each item and check it off the list. Even if you donât get everything done, you will see that you have made progress.
Know what you can control. It is important to remember which things are within your control and which things are not. For example, if you put âClean up the yardâ on your list and the weather does not cooperate, then you need to let that one go and realize that it was beyond your control. This concept is especially important when dealing with relationships. For example, some parents want to make their children do their homework. In reality, parents cannot make children do it. So, what can they control? Parents can set the right atmosphere without distractions, offer help, provide paper and pencils, etc., but they cannot actually make a child learn. It is critical to understand what you can really control.
Get Away. This is one of my favorites. I have a friend who shares ownership of a cabin in the mountains of Southern Utah with different members of his family. On occasion, my family has joined his up in the mountains. Iâm not sure if I can adequately describe the feeling up in the middle of the Dixie National Forest, but seeing the majestic mountains, the thick tall trees, and the roaming deer almost seems surreal. Being up there makes the daily stresses of the rat race seem far away. You have no choice but to slow down, take in the beauty, and enjoy things that are just not possible in my everyday life in Las Vegas.
Hopefully, these ideas will help you take a break from the stresses of the everyday rat race. If you do have interest in a cabin in the mountains of southern Utah, feel free to visit www.WoodedRetreat.com to find out more information.
