RED ALERT: Snakes on the Loose!

And they’re not just snakes- they’re deadly creatures.

Watching Snakes on a Plane gave me shivers as I remember having snake-like beasts in my life. Snakes are often used to describe traitors and betrayers who try to smile and befriend you but talks behind your back. They’re as treacherous as these creepy reptiles, spreading unbelievable gossips and poisonous stories.

I was really upset when I knew that somebody’s been backstabbing me. It raised doubts in my mind about trusting others. I can’t believe that there are people who actually feel the pleasure while they are talking behind your back! I mean, don’t they know that they’re hurting the other party’s feelings? Do they even realize that?

A simple casual talk can, without difficulty, turn into a hurtful gossip. For instance, the innocent statement “Daniel and Emma would make a good couple” might be repeated as “Daniel and Emma are a couple” – even though Daniel and Emma know nothing of their hypothetical romance. ‘Not a serious problem’, you might say – unless, of course, you were Daniel and Emma. So, is there any way to stop gossip?

Try putting yourself into Daniel’s or Emma’s shoes. What will you feel if you found out that you were married, even if in fact you’re not? Frustrating, huh? It is indeed disheartening to be a victim of these cruel rumors. If you don’t want to be wounded, be careful not to be the ground of others’ wounds too. It’s acceptable to be interested in lives of others but it doesn’t mean that we have to be busybodies in matters that don’t concern us. It is really tempting to join when disparaging remarks are being made about someone. I admit that I’ve tried butting in when I overheard my colleagues talking about a common ‘friend’. Everybody seems to be enjoying what they are doing. But I realized that when having a conversation with a friend or group of people, we have to be cautious of the words that may come out of our mouths. A single match can start a big fire. I’ve learned to keep out of other people’s business and start minding my own. After all, we are not living our life for others, are we? Whatever they do, it’s their right and their choice. And it’s not their business to mind your life either. So here’s what we should keep in mind: Nobody pays us to monitor other people’s lives and make them, ironically speaking, the apple of our eyes.
