Sony Bravia KDL-32D3000U High Definition Television Review

| by Robert Keene | July 16, 2007
While HDTVs have been flying off the shelves in recent months, it's worthwhile remembering that most of these new owners will still be watching mostly standard definition programmes on their brand new panels. Should you sit too close to a high-definition TV, all the artifacts inherent in compressed broadcast stations will be magnified on screen, destroying your viewing experience.

This is the reason why it may be better to buy a smaller HDTV for SD viewing. The new Sony Bravia KDL32D3000 LCD TV fits the bill perfectly. In this article I'll highlight some of the pros and cons about this 32" high definition TV.

Good Points:

- Traditionally LCD TVs have been plagued by mediocre black level. Sony KDL32D3000 proves the critics wrong in this aspect: the black level and grey gradation are some of the best I've ever seen on a HDTV of this size.

- Again, another shortcoming of LCD TVs is motion blur. Sony KDL32D3000 addresses this problem by incorporating its Motion Flow technology, which I must say works very competently in maintaining clarity in fast action scenes.

- For such a small TV, I'm pleasantly surprised that Sony has put in place quite good picture processing in terms of deinterlacing and noise reduction. This will improve standard definition picture even more.

Cons

- Thanks to the Wide Color Gamut (WCG) implemented on the Sony KDL32D3000, the colours can look slightly oversaturated. That said, unless you are an enthusiast who strives colour accuracy, this shouldn't pose a problem.

- If you wish to obtain the best picture from the Sony KDL32D3000 , you'll need to venture into the service menu to adjust the greyscale.

- The price tag is expensive compared to other models of a similar specification.

In conclusion, the Sony KDL32D3000 delivers a solid standard definition and high definition performance, but is priced at a premium. Only you can decide whether it's worth it.
