The facts about the Miami Dolphins

Miami Dolphins
It's been an interesting 2008 off-season for the Miami Dolphins and while it looks positive, the end result may leave them back on top of the NFL draft for 2009. Getting Bill Parcells to run the show was huge, but the previous mistakes made by others have left the team in dire straits where several changes had to be made just to do better than their 1-15 record in 2007. However, the team wasn't always on the lower end of the NFL.
When most people think of the Miami Dolphins, two things come to mind. You will either talk about the 1972 undefeated team that were one game away from giving up that title to the 2007 New England Patriots before they lost in the Super Bowl. If it's not perfection you're thinking about, then it's most likely QB Dan Marino. A man who never got a ring himself, but provided unbelievable aerial attacks against his opponents for many years.
In the beginning, though, the Miami Dolphins were nowhere to be found. In fact it wasn't until 1966 that they became an expansion team of the league. Over the next four seasons they built a foundation to where in 1971 they made their first appearance in the Super Bowl, although losing to the Dallas Cowboys. One year later they became the first team in NFL history to go 14-0 during the season on their way to a Super Bowl victory and a perfect 16-0 record.
Since then we've seen ups and downs, accomplishments and disappointments, but as of now the team hasn't made a post season appearance since 2001. Things will only get tougher to win the division considering the Patriots are the NFL powerhouse and the Jets have secured a decent team thanks to new QB Brett Favre along with bolstering the offensive line for the upcoming season.
By the end of the regular season, 5 or 6 wins could be possible for this young team that kept QB Chad Pennington in the division after New York released him shortly after the Favre was signed. The question is whether or not Bill Parcells will be able to bring this team back to life after so many years of anguish, especially 2007. We venture to say yes, but this is the NFL. The good news is Pro Player Stadium should be buzzing once again, when the Dolphins take the field in 2008.
