Should you use the same numbers every week for your lottery entry?
| by Maureen H | August 08, 2008
There are possibly millions of people every week choosing to use the same numbers for their lottery entries, quite often these are birthdays, which in many lotteries can only cover part of any possibly lottery selections.
To pick the winning numbers is obviously something every steadfast lottery player would want to do; can you crack the code using your own unique lottery strategy? I wish! As humans, we have an innate bias against anything random, we like control and patterns that make sense. We even like to believe sometimes that if we dont do something, or do it in a different way, that something bad might happen. For instance, I have got in the habit of not looking at a certain building when I drive past, as I mistakenly think that Ill have an accident if I do! Ive been doing this so long, I cant stop. Similar thing with people who always have to do their numbers every week.
The bottom line is you cannot pick any numbers that are more, or less likely to win. Just because a number seems to come up frequently, why should it come up again? Lottery is a game of pure chance and each and every number is purely random, SO HEAR THIS . No one number is more random than another. You can look at the rules of probability and as one number is drawn, the likelihood of your chosen number being drawn next is slightly increased as the possible selection is less. Unfortunately, to win the UK lottery jackpot, you have approximately a 1 in 14 million chance of being successful, yet we think we will be that one. Yet if the odds were similar that we would die tomorrow, we would think we wouldnt be that person! There is now a new game that only involves the numbers 0 to 9 AND you can influence the odds (go to www.haveiwon.com to find out more).
If you choose the same numbers every week, they are still random numbers and you stand just as much chance of winning as with a lucky dip selection. However, choosing birthday numbers in a lottery draw that has 49 numbers will reduce your chances as you are effectively ignoring 19 numbers totally. Using the same numbers would mean you would have to play 135,000 times to even have an evens chance of winning. Does that sound like a good prospect?
Millions dream of financial freedom but you cant rely on winning the lottery as the odds are certainly against you, although as mentioned, the odds can vary between different games.
I recommend that you join a syndicate where, although the cash returns may be smaller, the odds are much better. Or something like GlobalWonPlus where you can increase your chances of winning because there are fewer numbers and more options (see link below)!
