Online Poker Cheating

| by Andy Fullard | June 25, 2007
Online poker cheating can be done, but there is no incentive for an online poker to let it go ahead or even partake in the scheme. Poker sites make their income from the rake fee they collect from every hand played and the more hands of poker that are played means they collect even more money. More active players on a site result in more games, and more games means more hands dealt and more money collected. Considering this is the case, players can presume that good sites oversee play to catch players who are attempting to cheat the game.

They have algorithms in place to catch partner play and that is really the only form of cheating that can go on. Two players could be using instant messaging programs and be in the same game. They could tell each other what cards they have and the one player could raise in order to build the pot for the player with the better hand. This pattern is not easy to catch, but it can be beat by the simple method of folding hands that are consistently raised by one player who then folds their hand. The alternative way to contest this scheme is to forward your suspicions to the poker site and let them monitor the player or players that you suspect.

Most live casino players do feel that the dealing algorithm is not as fair as most sites claim. It does seem to favor aces more than any other card value. This may not be factually true, but that is the perception that live cash players have when comparing online play with live cash play. This perception could be caused by the fact that an online game is going to have more hands dealt per hour than are dealt in the same hour of play in a live game.

Another reason that some players feel they are being cheated is easy to see. They are terrible players with no concept of money management and when to call and when to fold. It is no wonder that they lose with such consistency. They are just really bad players who are not willing to learn the game correctly.

Players that suspect cheating since they lose all of the time should look at their play first before suggesting they are being cheated.

The sites that are popular with players all over the world have a vested interest in running a clean game with no hint of any schemes being allowed. It is just not in their best interest to let this go on.
