Man Utd still at the top spot
| by Cindy Ferguson | February 04, 2008
Thanks to the second half goals provided by Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester United was able to remain in the number one spot of the table. This is the clubs 16th season in the Premier League and their 33rd consecutive season in the top division of English football, a place where they wish to continue.
Man Utd was not in their best playing condition and many feared that Reading was going to win the match but when only thirteen minutes remained Wayne Rooney was able to score and minutes later Reading tried for an equalizer but Man Utd made a successful attack and this time Cristiano Ronaldo was the one who scored.
Rooneyâs goal marked his fifth for what goes of the season but he hopes to score more through out this season and score more then 16 to set a new record of goals for himself with the club.
Although Ronaldoâs performance was not even close to the way he usually plays he still managed to score his 23rd goal of this season. Everyone is used to seeing the 22 year old Portuguese give much more than what he did in this match but at least at the club was still able to pull it off.
Even though Man Utd started the 2007-2008 premiership season somewhat slow they have been able to stay at the top. The clubs to first opening games ended up as draws and then they lost Rooney due to a foot injury and then they also had Ronaldo out due to his suspension for head butting Richard Hughes. Due to the loss of those two star players and their results the club was heading towards the relegation zone for the first time in years.
A point to mention about Man Utdâs season so far is the paucity of goals conceded since they have only let in two goals in eight seasons and they have also been unsuccessful in scoring a lot of goals and have only scored seven in eight games.
Despite the above mentioned the club as stayed at the top and has not let anything bring them back down but I guess that type of mind focus and strength is what makes or breaks a good club.
