Republican Morals
| by Daniel J. M. Galpin | September 05, 2007
First, I would like to fully disclose, I support NEITHER Democrats or Republicans and FULLY believe that BOTH political parties have betrayed the American people and our trust CAN NOT be placed in them. They have used their offices to gain personal and party power at the expense of those they supposedly serve. AND if it were up to me, they ALL would be stripped of their titles and their wealth and be exiled penniless to some remote island to fend for themselves. God have mercy on anyone that comes upon them and rescues them and invites them to their country. This of course is referring to those in office and heads of the political parties, not the average American citizen who is a Democrat or Republican.
Now, with that said, I would like to address a common misunderstanding regarding the moral stand of the Republican party. Many see them as hypocrites for supporting moral values, yet finding themselves in moral scandals such as controversy regarding Senator Craig, most recently, and many others in the past including, but not limited to those that attacked President Clinton and were at the very time involved in adulteress relationships themselves.
The point of the Republican moral stand is not to say, Republicans are better people, therefore their morals should be the morals for all. Rather I believe the point is, a nation, and this is true historically, cannot survive without morals just as it cannot survive without economic prosperity. Laws are merely used to hold us accountable to each other because human nature left to it's own, will produce anarchic. I realize there are many that disagree with this statement, if it were not so, moral issues would not be a continuous debate.
This is one of the reasons I believe Republicans support family values and they also understand when they themselves fall short of the goal, there must be a law in place to hold them and all others accountable. We need each other regardless of your view on this topic. We are all stuck on this planet until such a time that space travel and inhabitation of other planets is available or until we kill each other off or until, as I believe, the Lord Jesus Christ returns again to set the world in order prior to the final judgment of God, so can we need to make the best of it?
A common ground is needed. As a nation, I believe we can obtain one by shifting moral issues to that state level and allowing residence of each state to vote regarding such. Since morality changes over time, humanly speaking, the voting can be done every 4, 6 or 8 years and state residence can adjust their thinking accordingly. Americans can either remain in their home state working to ensure the state adopts their moral views or relocate to a state that a lines with their moral values. Strict laws ensuring state line hopping to commit acts which are legal in a bordering state but not in one's home state would need to be created as well. This would include laws preventing one for acting upon laws of a diferent state merely because one is visiting such.
For example, if California allows abortion, but Oregon does not, one cannot live in Oregon cross over the line into California, simply to have an abortion. One must be a resident of the state to exercise it's law. Similarly, if Massachuetts allows homosexual unions but another state does not, they must understand if they visit or relocate to a state that does not recognize them as a unit, they may be charged with the crime, should that state has such a law prohibiting their union.
This is a way for Americans to live together while having differences in the way life should be lived. It's not that difficult, but neither side seems willing to yield. Both sides want to force the other side to do things their way. It is a solution that is not perfect, but is tolerant of each other. Both sides must also understand that if the people of their state, Massachuetts for example, changes their minds and thus change the laws in the future making homosexual unions illegal, the new law applies and a homosexual couple must either move, separate or face prosecution for their lifestyle.
By suggesting such a compromise, does not mean I approve of one lifestyle over another. I have my values and recognize others have different ones. It's an attempt to live together in peace rather than to battle moral issues continuously. My views are expressed openly on my campaign site.
