Coin Pearlshave been extremely popular for the last few years. When they first came out, they were almost prohibitively expensive, but now we are seeing more reasonable prices for these big pearls. Coin pearls are formed by placing a disc shaped pearl bead nucleus in a mollusk (instead of a round bead nucleus). The nucleus is made from natural shell material - typically Mother of Pearl.
A note on sizes: Coin Pearls are sized by diameter. A single number will give the average diameter for a round coin pearl; if the pearls vary a bit, the diameter will be given as a range (e.g. 10-11mm). Coin pearls in other shapes will give the sizing detail in the description that accompanies the pearl.
