MONEY WISDOM and PROSPERITY (Part 2)

| by Pauline Lewinson | November 02, 2008
Financial illiteracy is a big problem in our nation. It is the reason many are poor and never make it to the level where many others have reached. Many never experienced the joy of having more than enough. It is not too late to take action and begin to change.

The answer to this problem is to begin the education process for gaining and increasing knowledge about money and finances. It is moving from a poverty mindset of spending to the discipline of managing and investing.

I encourage you to take some time to learn about the history of money to make it more real and understood. Money is never a bad thing; it is not the root of all evil, even though not having enough money can be a problem.

The lack of money has caused people to commit all sorts of crimes. It should be in everybody’s best interest for more people to be educated about money learn how to manage their finances.

For a little background history: The main purpose of money is for trading. This first started in the Bible. In Genesis 14:17-19 Melchizedek blessed Abram and in return Abram gave him of his goods. Similar kinds of exchange are seen throughout the scriptures. People made covenants to God for the blessings He gave them.

The Kingship of Isreal was given to David and his descendants forever by a salt covenant. (2 Chronicles 13: 5).
In those days salt was traded as a form of currency. Throughout the ages people have used as money, objects such as; produce, feathers, stone, beads, shells, bronze, silver gold and other objects that the people of those times considered to be valuable.

I read in the book Money by Dorling Kindersley and Eyewitness book that “ it is not exactly known when money was first used.” We have seen where money has evolved over the years from produce, feathers, stone, beads, shells, bronze, silver gold and other objects to paper money and now plastic money-the good, but dangerous charge card. Charge card is a big mistake for people who do not have control or know how to manage their money.

Something else that makes people think of money in a bad way is the fact that people hoard it when it was meant to circulate. Think about the many starving children that could be fed with money that has been hoarded. There are many people who do not even have clean water to drink. The good thing is there are organizations that are looking out for the welfare of these people.

Contributions can be made to an organization to help support those who build wells for those who do not have running water. It is imperative that each individual take part in making the world a better place to live in. We can do this by being better managers of our money. The wise man Solomon reminds us that: Money answereth all things (Ecclesiastes 10:19).

So how can we better managers our finances?

In Part 3, I will give a list of suggested resources that have strategies you can begin to implement right away.
