Link Exchange Ethics
| by MegaDave71 | November 03, 2008
We all know how daunting accumulating links can be but surely there is some kind of ethics we should be following to make the task less of a pain in the ass. A lot of the sites I get given to look at are of the poorest quality and I would not want to be linked with sites of this nature. Some sites are irrelevant to my business and some do not even exist. If anyone wants to be taken seriously then they at least need to provide a website that exists, works and is of a good standard of quality.
My Top 10 Tips for a Successful Link Exchange.
1. Take time to get the correct email address. A stab in the dark at marketingatyoursite.com is ok but if there is a contact form on the website then use it. It will make the owner of the website know that you have taken a bit of time and effort to contact them for a genuine link exchange.
2. Make your email clear and to the point and add your name at the end of the mail. It is always good practice to let who you are mailing know who you are.
3. If you are doing the contacting then it is your responsibility to upload links to your website first. Approaching someone and telling them they must add your link first is not good practice. How would you like it!
4. Make sure your URLs work. There is nothing worse than clicking on a link to an URL that gives you a 404 Not Found result.
5. Websites with an URL that matches the theme of the website are good. www_bestonlinecasinoever.com should be about the best online casino. A site with an URL of www_astgoadine.com that is about online casino slots makes me think there is mischief afoot.
6. Having a website that looks good is important. Professionalism will increase your chances of someone wanting to link with you. If you have a website that looks like a 3 year old child designed it then do not expect many links.
7. If you want to link to websites high up in search engines then be prepared to give a little bit extra away. They need you less than you need them. They are already up where you want to be.
8. If you do not own the site then do not claim to do so. Getting several mails from several different people claiming that they own the site and you should link now will just let potential link partners know you are dishonest.
9. Make a note of the sites you have visited and the ones you have successfully linked to so not to send the same mail to the same webmasters again. This does get a little annoying. Make a note of the company that owns the site, this is usually at the foot of the page. Then when you visit another site with the same company you know that you have dealt with them.
10. Do not waste peoples time with bad websites, badly written emails or general bad practices. Common sense should prevail when requesting any business partnership.
All this said and done I look forward to receiving some good link partnership requests that will give me pleasure to accept. Anyone with a gaming related website can contact me via http://www.slotsonlinene … ntact.html
