That said however general ironmongery is easy it fit as long as you have the right tools and its always good to have basic knowledge of how to fit an ironmongery item.
FIXING
Firstly decide the height at which the bracket is to be fixed. For example for a shelf the supported surface should be easily accessible yet should not hamper daily movement about the room.
Brackets are usually fitted in pairs and care should be taken to fit both at exactly the same height and level, otherwise the supported horizontal surface will have a gradient. Though if the shelf or handrail is long then more supporting shelf brackets or handrail brackets can be fitted spaced evenly along the shelf.
To fit a bracket correctly ensure that the brackets sits flush with vertical supporting surface (i.e. a wall ) upon it is to be fixed
Care should be taken using a level or gauge that the vertical arm is fitted vertically. Similarly the horizontal arm should be level in the horizontal plane.
The horizontal arm must be fixed onto the surface it supports.
The size and type of screws used when fixing brackets is very important. The screws should be the right size and length to provide a strong fixing point.
The screws should sit flush within both the horizontal and vertical plane, they should not protrude or compromise the use of either surface. This is particularly important for shelf brackets and handrail brackets.
A reputable supplier will be able to provide the right screws and fixing instructions / advice.
