Preview Ava Leigh on YouTube Music Channel
| by Peter Ruppert | September 16, 2008
If you just found out about Ava Leigh, Britain’s new rising female artist, then you might be waiting along with her long-time fans for her yet to be released album, “Turned-On Underground.” But probably unlike her fans, your only exposure to the talents of this blonde reggae artist is probably the music video of her official first single, “Mad About The Boy.” You probably caught that one on YouTube. Well, if you like what you saw and heard, maybe you should take the time to get a better preview of the talents of this fast-rising star by moving on to her YouTube Channel.
Thanks to Next contracting Ava for their new ad campaign for their summer collection, YouTube music lovers and reggae fans have a few more videos to get a glimpse of the surprising talent of this 22-year old female artist. Her YouTube Channel was just recently updated with videos of her live performances during the launch of Next’s new ad campaign, held at Somerset House in London. This place seems to be a kind venue for Ava, as this was also where she had one of her successful supporting acts during the Lupe Fiasco tour early this year.
Fans who haven’t seen Ava Leigh perform live will certainly appreciate seeing her outside of her current music video. Of course, there is the video of her recording in the legendary Harry J’s Recording Studio in Kingston, Jamaica. Now with 5 more videos added, fans and newcomers to the fold alike will get a chance to see and hear Ava perform her singles. Aside from the previously mentioned carrier single, she also performs her first single, “La La La,” as well as “Rush,” “Rudi Skank,” and of course the soundtrack to the flagship ad of Next’s summer collection, “Mas Que Nada.” The full version of this advertisement is also available on YouTube, care of Next’s own channel, nextshopping.
Most up and coming recording artists usually use YouTube as a venue for much-needed exposure to establish a fan base and possibly score a recording contract with the major labels. Marie Digby comes to mind. Ava, however, is fortunate to already have worked with notable names in the music industry, including reggae legends Sly and Robbie, writers/producers Future Cuts, and reggae soundman Nick Mannaseh. Her work with them on her album caught the attention of Virgin Records’ R&A team, which also handles Jamiroquai. This means fans won’t have to wait long to get a hold of a new album to add to their reggae and/or female Brit artist music library.
If you’re not a fan of downloading and converting YouTube videos for offline appreciation, fire up iTunes and go to the online store to get your fill of reggae-lite. Ava’s “Mad About The Boy” and “Mas Que Nada” can now be bought as bundle for download to your iTunes library. These two songs will certainly be a good addition to your summer playlist until her full album comes out. You can also get a complimentary MP3 of “Addicted”.
