Tips to Keep Your House Clean 30-60 Days
| by Tonza Borden | July 15, 2007
Provided your house is cleaned by a professional housekeeper on a regular basis, you can maintain it for 30 days or more between cleanings. And its really quite simple to do.
During my experience as a professional housekeeper, most working family homes only require medium cleaning. That applies to a home that has 2 layers of dirt build up and, has been maintained periodically with a thorough cleaning. To minimize the appearance of dirt in your clean home, special attention should be given to high traffic areas such as the family room, kitchen and guest bath suites.
This does not mean that other living spaces are maintained halfheartedly. The premise here is that a home should be cleaned immaculately and efficiently at least once a month and, picked up to remain impressive for 30 days.
As an aside to having your home done, here are some tips to keep your friends and neighbors wondering how you can keep such a nice home.
First, lets talk about pets. I love both pedigrees and muts but they should not be allowed on furniture and beds because of hair and dander.
What would you say if I told you your home would stay 80% cleaner if the family left their everyday shoes at the highest traffic entry, usually the back door? Shoes that should never be worn throughout the home are sneakers, sandals, boots, sport shoes, etc. The other benefit is to feel the coolness of those beloved hardwood floors or the warmth of clean carpet.
Fresh, clean air is the breath of life but windows and doors should be kept shut before pollen starts to fall until the first day of autumn. Run the air conditioner and ceiling fans instead. Dont despair; winter, early spring and fall are great times to open your home for a breath of healthy, fresh air. Pollen causes a lot of misery and damage. The stains and residue are unsightly and relentless on draperies, upholstered furniture, window sills and floors.
Seal holes and cracks in the floor, around baseboards, fireplace and pipes to keep dirt and waste producing insects out.
KitchenMake it a rule to unload and load the dishwasher after the evening meal to keep dishes, pots and pans out of sight, out of mind! Remove trash daily and drop a foaming lemon scented tablet in the disposal once a week to stop odors before they start to smell. Wipe minor spills off flooring. A minute of effort will help your floor go the distance.
Dining RoomDont forget to keep those scented candles home fires burning to keep those your house smells good compliments coming.
BedroomsCover all pillows and both mattresses with dust-mite-proof covers, which will also produce less dust. Wash your sheets, pillowcases and mattress covers in hot wateronce a week. The bedroom feels clean when the bedding is crisp and fresh. Keep books, magazines and papers from piling up.
ToiletsDrop a bleach tablet in the tank to fight unsightly rings and stains in the bowl. Keep paper towels under the sink in the guest bath to give it a quick wipe n go with plain water.
When you employ these minor tips, your home will appear as fresh as the day it was thoroughly cleaned. You work hard to make a beautiful home of unique amenities and décor and; you want it to showcaseclean! You may or may not choose to veer from your standard of daily cleaning your own home. However, if you dont like to clean, tired of cleaning or just too busy to do it yourself, use my tips to keep your house tidy for at least 30 days between professional cleanings.
