The term “Green” building has become a buzzword around the building industry but what exactly does Green building mean; and how can one say that they are a “green” builder when most of the materials used in home construction are composed of toxic chemicals and materials. To be truly green, shouldn’t a home be built with natural materials in their rawest state possible? Enter the log home.

Log homes have been built in North America since the first settlers arrived here hundreds of years ago. They were built out of materials that were native to each particular area but ultimately shared the same necessary balance between form and function. These first log homes and their modern day predecessors share very little in terms of style and complexity but the commonality between them lies in there link to the environment and a desire to build with what nature provided.

The modern log home is truly a “green” building in that it is built from natural logs that are processed as little as possible. Companies like Coast Mountain Log Homes buy their raw logs right from the forest floor and process them as little as possible a long the their journey to becoming a handcrafted log home. This process ensures as small a carbon foot print per square foot as possible unlike mills or factories that produce huge amounts of pollution during the manufacturing of “modern” building materials.

Next time you hear someone talking about “green” building think about the original “green” building – the handcrafted log home!
