The practice of feng shui is much more than just compass directions and furniture arrangements. The decorations that you use in your house all give out hidden vibrations that can accumulatively affect the feng shui of your home.

We all know that photographs, pictures, and portraits, can greatly affect the mood of the room, so it is important to select a picture according to the energy of the space. For example the living room of a house should be lively to promote a healthy flow of chi. Lively paintings of festivities and vitality are suitable for the living room. Paintings of the feast is very auspicious for the dining room as it signifies abundance and prosperity

Paintings and pictures in the bedroom on the other hand, should be calm and soothing to promote rest and relaxation. Having bright colors and paintings of lively activities clashes with the Yin energy of the bedroom.

One must be careful when it comes to the use of celestial animals. For example, dragons are very popular in home decorations where they are often found in paintings and sculptures. Dragons are powerful mystical creatures that emit strong energy vibrations. Because of this, it is best to keep paintings and sculptures of dragons small and discrete. A large painting of a dragon may be too overwhelming for the owner, and if so, will bring bad luck and misfortune to the household. The same applies to other fierce animals such as tigers, lions and other mythical beasts.

Family portraits and pictures of family members should be placed in bright and lively areas of the home, such as the living room. Do not take family portraits with one or more members missing in the picture as it signifies an incomplete or broken family.
