Natural Remedies for Insomnia - A Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach to Insomnia Relief
| by Mark Ament | October 22, 2008
Here's a traditional remedy for insomnia that has been used in Asia for 100s of years and may help you get some sleep tonight.
Sometimes the simplest natural remedies end up being the best. And of, course, sometimes they don't work at all.
But if you are one of those unfortunate people who find themselves tossing and turning in bed night after night without really ever getting a restful sleep, this remedy is at least worth a try.
Here's what to do:
Step One: Get a large hand towel from your bathroom. Make sure that it's big enough to cover almost all of your upper body, from your collar bone down to your waist.
Step Two: Prepare a bucket of ice cold water and soak the towel in it for at least 3-5 minutes. When the towel is finished soaking, wring the water out of it and return to bed.
Step Three: Lie down on your back and get comfortable. Then place the towel over your abdomen. Make sure that it covers all of your vital organs, from the collar bone down. Relax and breathe. And repeat the process after the towel warms up.
Useful tip: The best results come from the coldest towels. Make yours as cold as you can stand.
How this remedy works:
Naturopaths and Chinese medicine healers believe that the cold of the towel compress pulls energy from your head down to your torso, relieving much of the built up stress that's keeping you awake.
One of the benefits of this remedy is that it requires no drugs, herbs or special equipment of any kind.
If you suffer from insomnia, there's nothing to lose in giving it a go.
