Live Healthier, Live Longer

Have you ever heard the phrase My friends got a treadmill and a riding lawn mower? Funny, isnt it, when we laugh about others poor choice of fitness exercises? But what does a look in the mirror reflect? Its always easy to laugh about someone elses habits, because were more objective about them than our own.
Just a week ago Ive seen a person in the park jogging up and down a flight of 40 steps, then getting into his car and driving off. Im not sure if Im the only one who thinks thats disturbing, but I will hand it to him, at least he tried. To be honest, people have misconceptions about how to stay fit and healthy, and this often causes problems that couldve been avoided.
First of all, jogging is useless if youre just going to get in your car afterwards. In stead of spending an hour per day jogging, why not just walk to work? Though few people know this, walking to work daily instead of driving there is actually a lot healthier. The reason? The deep, slow breaths you take while you walk actually give you a greater amount of oxygen than the fast, shallow breaths during a jog. Also, walking is a lot easier than jogging, so its always a good place to start and youll regret it less the next day. Im not saying you should walk instead of jog. You should do a bit of both. A mix of these two will ensure you get both a decent amount of exercise and arent deprived of oxygen.
The most important thing you can do to stay healthy, though, is to eat healthy. Too much fast food and meals on the go are entering our system these days, and a regular diet is a hard thing to come across. However, in all my time spent as a fitness trainer, Ive learned this much: a healthy workout loses half its effectiveness without a healthy diet. When home-cooked meals have been declared out of fashion is beyond me, yet the irregular diet of today is boasting nothing but health issues and unnecessary toxins.
If you truly want to lead a healthier life, then stop thinking about it and do something now. After all, each wasted moment is one you need to make up later. So why wait? In the end, youre only doing this for yourself.
