Is Obesity Catching?

| by Eva Moffat | December 05, 2005
If you are obese, can someone you breathe on catch it?

No it’s not a virus, obesity is NOT catching.

Okay having said that, have you noticed how being overweight runs in families? Does this mean it’s hereditary? What if it’s mum, dad and their three offspring? As mum and dad are not of the same flesh and blood, how come mum or dad is overweight like the children and their spouse?

Maybe if it’s not catching or hereditary, could it be in the glands? We could use the same argument as above, with the parents not being of the same flesh and blood. So that’s another theory that goes out the window.

The stark reality is that being obese is a case of being overweight, fat or call it whatever you want. If you are obese, you are not eating right.

We take in food that contains so many calories. We use up energy (calories) in our daily living activities. The more active we are, the more calories we burn up. So to manage our weight, we need to take in at least 100 calories less than we use. Every activity has a calorific value, just as every morsel of food that we eat has.
