Campaign for Educational Equity

Dear Sir or Madam:

My name is Marsiste Adolphe, and I am a special education teacher at a New York City public school. I am researching many cases in order to petition the Supreme Court to revisit the Brown's case. The desegregation order from the Supreme Court in the Brown’s case has failed to eradicate the segregation in the public school system. Shamefully, the re-segregation of the school system is being done through special education.

Data have shown about 83% of special education students are minorities. Leaving Empty handed, The Hehir Report have shown also that 88% of these students have not acquired a high school diploma. In NYC district 75, the rate of getting a regular high school diploma by any special education student is .002%. This is alarming! This problem needs to be remedied, but the status quo will not reform the educational system to help our students.

I will use a few reports such as Leaving Empty handed, The Hehir Report, US Department of Education data, precedent, and other data to show that separate is not equal. This case has a direct correlation with the rate of minority youngsters being incarcerated. I need a few good men and women including lawyers to work on this case.

This case is about educating minority students. Moreover, with the absence of affirmative action, our students need a good integrated education and not incarceration.

If you are interested, please contact me at marado@netzero.net. Please inform me of your area of expertise also. Please spread the Gospel. The time to reverse this vicious cycle of self-destruction and incarceration is now. We still can make the Dream of Dr. King come true, if all of our children are treated equal. Our students must receive equal education and not special education! We hold this truth to be self-evident!

Sincerely,

Marsiste Adolphe
