What's Happening at New Season Church, For God's Sake?

| by Jan Mozingo | November 06, 2008
Different, Powerful, Edgy are all words used to describe New Season Church in Hiram, GA, but many people in the community are asking 'What is Happening at New Season Church, For God's Sake!' For a church that started just 8 months ago in Paulding County – the largest 'un-churched' county in Georgia, the church has been drawing record crowds, and hundreds of lives have already been changed. But what is different about New Season Church - what is drawing all the people? If you were to take a poll on Sunday morning, many would say it's culturally relevant – it gives them something they can use each week based on what they're currently dealing with. Others would say it's contemporary, offering programs, events and relationships for all members of the family – young and mature.

Still others would say it's the message relevant, timeless, enthusiastic - and Pastor Steve Flockhart should know. It's the same message that appealed to him over 20 years ago at a revival he attended in Wilmington, NC. Steve grew up in a broken family. He knew first hand, and at a young age, the loneliness, hopelessness and depression that lead him to drugs, alcohol and self-destruction. When Steve first heard the powerful, life-changing message of Jesus, he didn't walk, crawl or procrastinate – he literally jumped a fence to make a decision for Christ and learn more, and he's been moving with the same enthusiasm ever since.

Steve's message is about 'life change'. Steve can talk about it because he's experienced it himself: failure, disappointment, loneliness, confusion, depression, discouragement, loss, and defeat. But there are different Seasons of Life, and Steve knows firsthand that God can use these different seasons to get our attention and get us on the 'right track' or get us back 'on track'. That's the timeless message Steve presents every week: there is a hope and a future for everyone, and God has a plan! He may not intentionally 'make' us go through these things, but he certainly does use them. We can either get bitter or get better, and Steve has chosen the 'better'!

Several times in Steve Flockhart's life, he has experienced a 'new start'. And the most exciting to date is the start of New Season Church in Hiram, Georgia. The stories of how God put together this dynamic ministry team are several stories in themselves, but the fact that God is alive, active and working in New Season Church can't be denied. To date, hundreds of new people in the community have already visited New Season Church. Hundreds more have been impacted by their community service and outreach. And, hundreds more have experienced, first hand, dramatic life changes.

What is in store for New Season Church? God only knows, but we do know they are already starting the first phase expansion to make room for more guests in the already packed out services.
