The smaller a business is the more often they lament the limitations placed on them by their smaller statures. No, a small business is never going to top the charts in money spent on marketing. You’re going to be up against some very large competition in your quest to get people interested in your store.

Here’s the thing about marketing though: it isn’t all about the money. Sure you can pump quite a bit of money into a marketing campaign and get some wonderful results, but do you have to pump that much money into it in order to be successful? The more focused and the better made a marketing push is the more success it will naturally have, money or no money.

You can achieve some very impressive results with your marketing without spending very much money if you know how to properly market your business, and how to take advantage of your status as a small business.

There are two things a small business has going for it that the large corporations just can’t compete with. The first is that you’re naturally much closer to the community. You’re quite literally part of the community, and people have a habit of taking greater interest in local stores because of this.

Secondly you know the area better than any company that’s just coming in. Most small businesses are going to be started by people who have been in the area for years, and this gives you a marketing advantage the others don’t have.

But let’s put this in to practice to better explain it. You decide on getting some color poster printing. You can’t afford very much so you just get a handful of posters made.

Because you know the people you’re marketing to better those posters are going to be more focused on what they want and need. You know what their concerns are, so you can put those in your marketing. Secondly, a strong part of poster marketing is knowing where to put those posters up.

You know the best locations to put up those color posters for maximum exposure, something no other company can boast. A large company could get that same color poster printing done and have half as many sales because they don’t know the language to use or the locations to focus on. These are special things only you will know because you’re so close to the community.

Every company is going to have certain strengths and weaknesses. Why focus only on your weakness when you have some very powerful strengths at your disposal to create effective marketing. Never let yourself be beaten down by the odds. If you take a moment to really look at the situation I think you’ll see you have a much better chance at making it than you might realize.
